We offer a Scottish Brooch of flowing form, rare beauty and fine workmanship. The Agate stones, set in silver, are intricately sculpted and bevelled. The design suggests a variation of the love-knot or of a bow emerging from a circle. It is a glorious romantic token symbolizing endless or eternal love. The colors are rich and saturated, yet not bold. The overall feeling of softness is a triumph for the stoneworker. This is a brooch of museum quality c. 1860-1880. A relative to this jewel is photographed in the volume entitled “Victorian Jewelry” by Ginny Dawes and Corrine Davidov, pg. 81, Abbeville Press.
